Mushrooms & More: An Introduction to Mycology

November 5 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm CDT

A free class to bring you into the varied and bizarre world of fungi.

Welcome to the Kingdom Fungi!

NEW! Fungi have crucial symbiotic relationships with plants, and are important in recycling nutrients and in the decomposition process. They’re a highly valuable food source to animals and humans, and their vast biodiversity makes them useful in medicine.

Please join us this weekend when we welcome guest Eva Gordon to introduce you to the fungi, including their taxonomy, anatomy and life cycle, their ecological roles, and their importance in ecosystems. Those who attend will learn about the fungi identification process and how to use various resources to further their education. FREE.

Eva Gordon discovered mushrooms on her many hikes in the woods during the COVID lockdown, and where she once focused on bird watching and photography, mushrooms called to her. Instead of pointing her camera up at birds, she aimed down toward the myriad of mushrooms along the trails. Eva later helped form the North Texas Mycological Association, and is now their vice president, and on the Education Committee for the North American Mycological Association. She has a degree in zoology and master’s work in biology, and has taught STEM programs from elementary to high school level. Currently an author and North Texas Master Naturalist, she is working on both a fiction and non-fiction book related to mycology.

A TICKET IS REQUIRED TO GUARANTEE A SEAT. As attendance is limited, we encourage you to register early and read our ticketing procedures.

IF THIS EVENT HAS SOLD OUT, we welcome you to attend if we have not reached stated capacity within 5 minutes of the program starting, and if there is still available space.
