Join us for a Yoga, Hike and Brew event led by Debbie Simon.

Join us for a Yoga, Hike and Brew event led by Debbie Simon.

Explore More is here to bring you a fun outdoor community event where we will get in nature and soak up the fresh air with a family friendly hike and some yoga in nature. We want to give you the opportunity to explore new trails and activities while meeting new people and building confidence outdoors.

Cost: $30 (includes $5 drink coupon to Epic Gelato and Craft Coffee)

Hike Length: 3-4 miles

Hike Time: 1-1.5 hours

Event Overview: We will begin the morning with a standing warm up yoga practice on an even surface- no mat needed. Before our hike we will discuss outdoor and hiking ethics, Leave No Trace Principles, and what to do when a mountain biker is coming towards you. We will hike approximately 3-4 miles out and back- about an hour and a half. After our hike you will receive a drink coupon to Epic Gelato and Craft Coffee. Epic is about a 3-minute drive from the trail head.  You can use coupon that morning or anytime at your convenience.

Parking: There is plenty of free parking at Lakeside DFW on Lakeside Parkway. Look for the sign that says trail parking. Please do not park in the surrounding neighborhood.

What you bring: Please bring water and a snack if needed (but be sure to pack any trash out) and wear comfortable clothes and tennis or hiking shoes. Trekking poles or a walking stick recommended if you would like assistance with avoiding tripping or assistance climbing hills. You will NOT need a yoga mat. Tall socks or long pants to avoid brushes with poison oak/ivy. Sunscreen and bug spray optional. This trail has some shaded spots but plenty of open spaces with direct sunlight. It is mostly flat, with some incline and elevation along the way. This will be an all-levels hike

Recommended skills for this hike: The ability to listen and follow instructions, walk independently or with light assistance with a single point cane or trek-pole, the ability to look for trip hazards, lift feet 3 inches from the ground, move to the side quickly and the ability to not touch or ingest the flora and fauna.

DOBRA Trail: Yes. This trail is shared with mountain bikers. We will be walking the opposite direction of the bikers and may have to move quickly towards the side of the trail to allow them the pass. Dogs and kids must be able to follow the guides instructions immediately.

Trash Talk: Explore More encourages cleaning up the trail as we go. A grocery sack will be provided. Glove wearing is welcomed. We will make it fun and have prizes for whoever picks up the most trash.

Before your Hike: Hydrate, apply sunscreen and bug spray.

Family friendly: Yes! Your kids are welcome and FREE!! However, no strollers and make sure children can handle a 3-mile hike OR be held. Dogs are also welcome but must be on a leash and you must pack out poop. Be sure to have any baby carrying device you need and that kids and dogs can obey commands especially when we need to step aside so bikers can pass.

What you will get from us: You will have a fun experience, be led in an outdoor yoga class and guided hike and you will get one drink ticket to Epic Gelato and Craft Coffee, some outdoor education and inspiration to get outside and build confidence so you can continue to Explore More on your own.

Weather disclosure: If weather does not allow us to have our event or recent weather has caused the trail to close, we will either relocate, reschedule or refund your ticket price OR you can transfer to another event. Please check your email and the Facebook event for any updates.
